We live about 45 minutes away from an amazing Mennonite grocery store. They sell ingredients in bulk including spices, flours, beans, and grains. We make a trip there several times a year so that I can buy gluten free flours and oats in bulk, saving so much money. They also sell freshly ground peanut butter. We can watch the worker make the peanut butter right before our eyes. It tastes heavenly. When I discovered that I could make my own peanut butter in my food processor, I was hooked. We can have the healthy benefits of natural peanut butter without the big price tag. Perfect!!

Making homemade peanut butter is so easy! All you need is peanuts and a little bit of salt, but even the salt is optional. It’s easy to have the food processor running as I am preparing dinner and my kids even make it now.

How to Make Homemade Natural Peanut Butter

Equipment Needed:

Food Processor

Silicone Spatula

Instructions:

Put the unsalted peanuts into a food processor fitted with the ‘S’ blade and add the salt, if using.

Blend on high speed for 4-5 minutes. If the small bits of peanuts stop mixing, scrape down the sides with a spatula, then resume blending.

The peanuts will first get chopped up, then start to form a chunky butter and be tossed all over inside the food processor. You know when the peanut butter is done when it forms a smoother butter on the bottom of the food processor. The longer you blend the peanut butter, the smoother it will become.

This method does not make a super smooth peanut butter like what comes out of the jars. This has a crunchier texture, which we all prefer.

That’s it–super easy!
