Crispy and full of flavor, these healthy baked gluten-free and vegan onion rings hit the spot for all of the onion fans out there. With no oil and no frying needed, these can be enjoyed as a tasty side. My family loves it when I make these for dinner!
When I first had to eat gluten-free, I really missed onion rings. And, even though they were not healthy (deep-fried), I still missed the flavor. These baked onion rings are so much healthier with no oil needed and even have added protein with the almond flour. I can have the taste I love guilt-free. I hope you enjoy these onion rings as much as my family does!
How to Make Gluten-Free Baked Onion Rings
Ingredients needed:
4 large Onions
½ cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
1 ½ cups Almond Flour
2 tsp Garlic Powder
2 tsp Paprika
½ tsp Sea Salt
½ tsp Black Pepper
½ tsp Chipotle Pepper, optional
¼ tsp Cayenne Pepper, optional
Equipment needed:
Chef's knife and cutting board
Baking sheet with silicone mat
Glass bowls
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Peel and then slice the onions into rings, then separate the rings with your hands.
Pour the almond milk into a deep bowl. In a separate bowl, prepare the breading by mixing the almond flour and all of the spices until blended.
Dip the onion rings into the almond milk, then dip them into the breading and coat the entire onion as needed with the almond flour mixture. Place the ring onto a baking sheet fitted with a silicone mat or parchment paper. Repeat with all of the onions. Space out the onions on the baking sheet as much as possible, but they will still cook if there is some overlap.
Place the onion rings in the oven and bake for 30-40 minutes or until soft in the middle and crispy on the outside.
Reheat leftovers in an air fryer (if you have any–we never do!)
Enjoy!
